Description
Now referred to as the Common Loon, this is the state bird of Minnesota. The Common Loon can be found throughout the United States while on migration, and breeds throughout Canada and the northern United States.
The Loon has an other-wordly, eerily ghostly vocalization which can be heard on the lakes of the North Woods.
Common Loons are true waterbirds, they only come ashore to mate and nest.
